How Do You Tolerate Statists?

This is a question that most liberty minded people have to ask themselves on a regular basis:

I can’t stand listening to everyone around me insist on more government. It drives me nuts. I can’t knock down their fallacies half as fast as they can make them up. How do you deal with statists without wanting to put your head in a blender?

The blood in my blender and the scars on my skull suggest that I’m not the perfect person to ask. That being said, I have learned a few things over the years.

First of all, don’t deal with them. This might seem a little harsh but it’s usually your best option. If someone insists that it’s ethical to use violence against you, you don’t want to be friends (or family) with them anyway. Unless you’re trained in psychology, I wouldn’t try to change them. This stuff is ingrained in people. Most of the time, it’s best just to get them out of your life.

Naturally, that won’t always be a practical short term option. You either need to make a commitment to working your life around this preference or get very good at ignoring them. You don’t need to work at a job with whining statists. You don’t need to visit whining statist family. When they can’t give you the courtesy of a non-violent conversation, you shouldn’t tolerate them forever (or even on a long term basis.) If you choose to, or have to deal with statists. There are some options.

Here are a few things that I do tolerate statists:

Feel Bad For Them

It can be easy to get mad at statists but, ultimately, most of them are just victims here too. They’re so hopeless about society that they think they need violent protection to survive. They have Stockholm syndrome. That’s more depressing than it is upsetting for me.

Profit Off Them

If you can’t feel bad for idiots encouraging government then learn to manipulate government for your own benefit. Someone is going to be using government to legally profit, it might as well be someone that doesn’t actually support the idiocy.

Make Fun Of Them

It doesn’t have to be harsh but making fun of statists can make it a whole lot easier to tolerate them. Most statist talk is downright silly. It’s like they’re setting you up to lighten the mood a bit. If you do it right then you won’t even upset anyone.

Ignore Them

When all else fails, you have to learn to put them in the back of your bind. You can spend your whole life worrying about statists but it’s just not worth it. There are plenty of better things that you can do with your time.

You can waste your whole life listening to idiots ramble about violence. You can even try to correct every one of their false statements. Naturally, they’re just going to invent more because they aren’t statists for rational reasons in the first place. In reality, it’s not worth it to fight most of them. Shut them out of your life or at the very least, out of your head.
